Join us for a conversation on the future of energy and blockchain.
Blockchain technology is being discussed as one of the most potentially disruptive innovations since the Internet. Blockchains combine information technology, cryptography, and governance principles that enable fully transparent transactions to occur without the need for costly third parties. There are particular applications relating to energy that are creating both opportunities and challenges, in this 19th century, regulated industry.  These applications cover the entire value chain of energy transactions, from faster methods of clearing and settlement in the wholesale markets to secure peer-to-peer transactions at the distribution level.

We seek to convene the major stakeholders across all of the potential industry actors. It is our intention to engage key figures from utilities, the ISOs, energy regulators, the technology vendors that will impact the sector, and the larger energy consumer stakeholders that will be the beneficiaries of this innovation. Each of these groups will be asked to present their thinking about blockchain, with opportunities for smaller, facilitated group discussion. Our goals of this event are to provide a forum for stakeholders to better understand and design solutions to the varying threats and opportunities presented by this new disruptive technology.
THE URBAN FUTURE LAB (UFL) is New York City’s hub for smart cities, smart grid and clean energy based out of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering in the Brooklyn Tech Triangle. UFL hosts several programs focused on educational, policy and market solutions to the issues of sustainability, including ACRE, the City's premier cleantech business incubator. ACRE supports innovative startups that provide solutions to our most pressing climate and energy challenges, all while creating green jobs in NYC and training the next generation of engineers. ACRE is dedicated to growing an ecosystem of mission-driven startups that advance the city as a role model for a low-carbon future. In addition to ACRE, the Urban Future Lab also hosts PowerBridgeNY, a clean energy proof-of-concept center, and Clean Start, a cleantech professional training program. Our programs are sponsored by NYSERDA, NYCEDC, NYU Tandon School of Engineering and National Grid. See ufl.nyc for more information.
